Abusive stepfather allegedly beats two-year-old to death in Bangkok

A two-year-old boy was reportedly beaten to death by his stepfather recently in Bangkok, after extended physical abuse.

The boy Pongsakorn Imjad died from a ruptured spleen and liver and a broken skull, the Nation reported.

His mother, Sirimongkhon Premprasai, returned last Friday Nov. 25 to her home to find her son barely conscious. “I rushed him to Sikharin Hospital from where he was referred to Chulalongkorn Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries there and I learned his autopsy results,” she said.

The boy had been at home with with Sirimongkhon’s new husband Mhai Rungwond, who said that he didn’t know what happened, and a friend who shared the apartment, Apisek Deeluan.

“My friend said he often stomped on my son, bit him, banged his head against the wall and pushed his head into a toilet. He did all this when I was not in the room with them,” said Sirimongkhon. She filed a complaint at Phra Khanong Police station against Mhai, with the help of the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women.

Pol Lt. Colonel Rungchar Rungthon, deputy superintendent of Phra Khanong Police Station, said that he would interrogate Mhai and Apisek and gather evidence to put together an arrest warrant for Mhai.
