Rescue workers last week buried all 2,002 aborted fetuses that were discovered dumped at a Bangkok temple two years ago.
On Friday, more than 100 workers from the Por Tek Teung foundation brought the fetuses from Chulalongkorn Hospital’s forensic institution to its 44-rai cemetery in Samut Sakhon, the Bangkok Post reported.
Following a tipoff from a local resident in November 2010, police found hundreds of plastic bags containing the fetuses in the graveyard of Wat Phai Ngern Chotanaram in Bang Kholaem district.
The fetuses were brought to the temple from underground abortion clinics with the cooperation of an undertaker at the temple and his assistant. The discovery drew attention to unwanted pregnancies and the fact that in Thailand, abortion is illegal accept in extreme situations.
Last year, undertaker Suthep Chabangbon was sentenced to three years and four months in jail for “conspiring to dispose of and conceal” the fetuses. His assistant Suchart Phumee has been indicted for colluding with a former nursing assistant to commit the same act Suthep was convicted of.
