Camillian Home sure knows how to throw a great event, while also raising money for needy young ones. Besides great food and wine, as well as the opportunity to mingle with some nice people, the event’s guests were also treated to enlightening presentations and performances. At the end of the night the dance floor was the place to be. Who knew we’d be dancing our heads off at a gala dinner?
Earlier in the evening, Alysha Coulson, a young volunteer at Camillian Home, gave a short PowerPoint presentation that summarized what the center was all about.
“One way you can help is to simply come to the home to volunteer,” she said. “You can even bring your family and kids.”
Next up was a touching performance by a child from Camillian Home, who was accompanied by two musicians. The trio played the famous Everly Brothers’ tune “All I Have to do is Dream.”
Then it was time for the live auction. The MC reminded us to, “Spend, spend, spend…”
Prizes consisting of everything from hotel getaway packages to jewelry were up for grabs. It was especially moving to know that all the money was going to help the children in need. That night the Camillian Home Charity Gala Dinner raised between THB1.3 and THB1.5 million, according to Judith Coulson, Executive Director of BKK-Health.
Coulson is also a part of the Camillian Home committee, which supports the home with minor administrative work, budget planning and fundraising.
“What we appreciate as a sponsor is the fact that we can see how our donations and service support is making a difference in the children’s lives and environment,” said Coulson. “Volunteers at the Camillian Home feed the children well, give them the medical care needed no matter what and keep the home clean and friendly, offering a real home for kids that had no luck with their own family.”
Coulson also explained that every baht is accounted for at Camillian Home. “The bookkeeping is transparent and we get a yearend report showing exactly what got spent for what.”
There are three ways people can help the Camillian Home:
1. Make a monthly donation to the home that can start with as little as THB500 a month
2. Volunteer at the home. Camillian Home kids need stimulation too. The home is thankful for people helping out with art activities, music, massages, reading to the kids, playing games, just taking them for a walk, etc.
3. Fundraise for the home. If you are participating in or planning a charity event, keep Camillian Home in mind.
