Tens of thousands of Red Shirt United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) protestors rallied at Democracy Monument in Bangkok yesterday.
The Red Shirts were gathered to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of Thailand’s absolute monarchy and the birth of the constitutional monarchy in 1932.
Police estimated that 35,000 people attended the rally, according to Reuters, and many roads in the area were closed.
The UDD was also gathered to show disproval of Constitution Court judges who have ordered the suspension of a charter amendment bill deliberation, the Bangkok Post reported. Critics of the amendment say that it would pave the way for exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to return to Thailand.
