Newin announces split with Buriram United’s head coach via YouTube

Yesterday, Buriram United chairman Newin Chidchob released a video clip on YouTube announcing the club’s decision to split with head coach Attaphol Buspakom, aka Coach Tak.

“Under agreements and conditions held between me and Coach Tak, there are some agreements by which we cannot abide,” cited the 54-year-old politician-turned-football club owner. “I am here to announce that Buriram United and Coach Tak have to depart on a separate way from now on.”

Newin did not identify which specific agreements caused the split. He did, however, calm his fans with an assertion that the professional football club, nicknamed Thunder Castle Warrior, had a strong management system that would enable it to thrive even without Coach Tak’s leadership.

The abrupt separation came as a surprise to many soccer enthusiasts. After a 2-2 draw with FC Seoul in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday, the same night in which Newin’s statement was broadcast, Buriram United became the first Thai team to advance to the League’s knockout stage in a decade. The Buriram-based club secured the last-16 spot after scoring seven points in the group stage.

Coach Tak, 50, joined Buriram United in April 2010 and has helped the club win many championships, including the 2011 Thai Premier League, 2012 Thai FA Cup, 2012 Thai League Cup and 2013 Kor Royal Cup.

Buriram United will compete with Group G winner Bunyodkor PFK from Uzbekistan in the Asian Champions League later this month.
