The former U.S. envoy to North Korea, Glyn Davies, is expected to assume his post as the new US ambassador of Thailand beginning next month.
Although Thailand has been left 10 months without an official U.S. ambassador, Davies, who was officially appointed by the US Senate last week, will arrive Thailand and undergo a swearing-in ceremony next month.
The diplomat is said to be “suited to the task” by John Kerry, the U.S. Secretary of State.
The exact date of Davies’ arrival, however, has not been revealed.
“Ambassador Davies is a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service with 35 years of diplomatic experience,” U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Melissa Sweeney said on Tuesday. “The U.S. Mission looks forward to welcoming him, and his wife Jacqueline Davies, to the Kingdom in the coming weeks.”
Davies previously tweeted in response to his appointment that the position is a huge honor and he looks forward to moving to Bangkok with his wife.
Davies will replace colorful Kristie Kenney who left her post in November and returned to Washington D.C., Khaosod English reports.
