New toxic waste measures after 30 million tons of garbage goes missing

The Pollution Control Department (PCD) is planning to propose legislation to the Cabinet that would restrict the movement of hazardous waste throughout Thailand.

This proposal comes on the heels of news that manufacturers have illegally transferred 30 million tons of waste to undisclosed locations.

At present, Thai law enforcement officials have difficulty tracking the movement of toxic waste. If passed, the new measure would require local administrative agencies to monitor waste management and disposal, reports the Nation.
