Thailand will start using new banknotes and coins fearing images of the current monarch, King Maha Vajiralongkorn, next Friday.
Today, the Ministry of Finance unveiled the new coins to the public. Both the coins and banknotes, which were revealed to the public earlier this month, will enter circulation on April 6, a holiday which commemorates the establishment of Thailand’s current Chakri Dynasty.
The front of the new coins feature a portrait of King Maha Vajiralongkorn (King Rama X) in the uniform of the Royal Guards during the reign of late King Chulalongkorn.
The current notes and coins featuring the previous monarch, late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, will still remain legal tender.
