Netizens slam EGAT for not being able to deliver on advertising claims

Netizens have been gleefully sharing an advertisement for the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) after a massive blackout hit the South yesterday.

During a blackout drill shown in the ad, EGAT boasts that it can fix any such problem in less than 10 minutes. The claim, however, took on a darkly ironic note last night as all 14 Southern provinces were left in darkness for at least one hour.

The ad, released in 2009, also contains numerous pieces of ornamental English jargon, such as “the blackstart plan,” emergency diesel, board turbine and line charge. After watching this ad, some YouTube commentators jokingly threatened to file a complaint with the Office of the Consumer Protection Board, accusing EGAT of exaggeration.
