Children’s Day came and went, now would someone think of the kids?
It’s been more than three years since they could explore the now-closed Children’s Discovery Museum, last rumored to reopen early last year.
Complaining that Bangkok lacks much recreational space for children, 21,000 people have signed one of those decisive e-petitions at Change.org, urging the government to bring back the museum, where children once explored eight areas inside three buildings, with interactive exhibits on science, nature, culture and society.
Since its closure, now they’re lucky to find some tanks to play on or empty prime ministers’ seats to squat atop.
The details of what cool new exhibits are part of the epic renovation have not been released to the public. Therefore, no one actually knows if it will be any better, or for that matter, what’s going on inside that closed building.
Maybe nothing.
TCIJ reported that the problem has been finding the right construction company who are experts on creating educational tools and willing to go through the government’s e-bidding.
The search has reportedly been in the works for four years.
First opening in 2001, the Children’s Discovery Museum was the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. Financial and operational difficulties were cited as reasons for its “temporary closure,” which has continued despite word it would reopen early last year.
