A woman was found stabbed to death in a pool of blood this morning in a room in Bangkok’s Khlong San district.

A suspect is in custody after police found 26-year-old Thanida Upachai, at around 1:30am in her room atop the six-story residential building. She had been stabbed 15 times and was lying on the floor in a nightgown. A bloody 10-inch kitchen knife was found on the floor.

Thanida’s next-door neighbor managed to apprehend her suspected killer – 21-year-old Suwat Thajohor from Sisaket province – who on Friday morning was being held by the Crime Suppression Division.

Messages posted to a social media account linked to Thanida complained of relationship problems and infidelity. The last message was published at 9:31pm last night. Her profile indicates she worked as a freelance model and at a beauty clinic.

Police said their preliminary investigation found Thanida lived alone. Her neighbors said they heard what sounded like a fight and a woman’s cries for help. They opened their doors to investigate and saw someone fleeing, who they managed to capture. That turned out to be Suwat.

The authorities speculate that the assailant may have intended to rob or sexually assault Thanida. They also believe there was a personal conflict between the two. Thanida’s body was undergoing autopsy at Siriraj Hospital.

Further investigation was needed before charges could be filed.
