NBTC decreases fee for mobile number portability

The fee for Mobile Number Portability (MNP), or the ability to switch mobile networks while keeping the same number, will be reduced from TBH99 to TBH20 starting July 1. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission initiated the move to increase competition in the mobile market.

Korkij Danchaivichit, NBTC Vice Secretary-General, urged operators to quickly expand their MNP capabilities from the current 40,000 per day to 300,000 in an effort to address the growing demand for 3G services. Operators must periodically report to the commission about their MNP user records, he added.

3G operators are now also allowed to migrate their 2G subscribers to new 3G networks through SMS confirmation, the Bangkok Post reported.
