Yesterday, Chonburi law enforcement officers were called to deal with a bit of unconventional police work — a naked man clinging to a lamppost on an overpass in Sriracha district.

Around 5pm, local police had to shut off a traffic lane on a road heading to Baan Laem Chabang when they received reports about a man who appeared to be considering jumping from the bridge.

The man, identified as 27-year-old Niran Juntogool in a report by Daily News, was clinging onto an electric pole in his birthday suit while repeatedly screaming ‘I want to die’.”

Refusing to be comforted by authorities, Niran was, allegedly, howling in a manner in which witnesses described as resembling the “Tarzan yell.”

Suddenly, however, Niran changed his mind about jumping, and took off running instead — instigating a wild foot chase before being tackled to the ground by police, right in the middle of traffic.

Ratri Juntogool, Niran’s 45-year-old mother, claimed that her son was diagnosed with an identified mental disorder about four to five years ago.

Though Niran is regularly on medication prescribed by a specialist, he had recently stopped taking the recommended regimen of pills, and would only take anti-depressants, according to Thairath

Prior the incident, Ratri added that she had taken him to be detained at Laem Chabang police station after Niran suffered an especially intense manic episode the night prior to the incident. In the morning, she took him to the hospital, but he escaped.

According to Chonburi police, its officers sent Niran back to the hospital to be assessed.

If you or your loved ones suffer from suicidal thoughts or a panic episode, the Department of Mental Health runs the hotline 1323, which offers consultations around the clock.
