The body of a homeless, female, mentally-ill Myanmar national was dug up on a Koh Samui beach Monday after beachgoers complained of a bad odor and officials investigated.

Now, a male Myanmar national, who rents jet skis on the beach, is wanted for questioning in the death but police believe the man, identified only as “Ao,” has left the island.

The body was identified as belonging to “Rucie,” a woman who had been on the island for a decade and made her living begging from tourists, according to area vendors, reported The Nation.

Her remains were buried under a meter of sand in popular tourist area Lamai Beach. She had a stab wound on her stomach that is suspected of being the cause of death.

An area massage parlor owner named Eid suspected that the murder was prompted by a robbery since she said that Rucie had a gold necklace that was missing.

The investigation is ongoing, CCTV footage is being checked, and police are monitoring the borders for the suspect.
