A woman from Myanmar was stabbed to death around noon today in front of Bangkok’s Platinum shopping mall in an apparent labor dispute.

Paramedics found fruit vendor Phyu Mar Aung, 34, lying in a pool of blood with five stab wounds to her torso, arms, and back. They attempted to revive her, but the woman succumbed to her wounds about 30 minutes after they arrived.

Police said that the man who killed her was a Myanmar national named Thet Lin Oo who worked at another fruit stall. According to police, he was angry that the deceased complained to his employer that he was always on his phone and not diligent about his work.

After her most recent complaint, police said that an enraged Thet used a three-inch knife to fatally stab her.

He attempted to run away from the scene before mall security guards subdued him and handed him over to the authorities.

He was being detained Thursday afternoon at the Phaya Thai Police Station, where officers were preparing to charge him with murder.
