Myanma boy’s penmanship tops Thai students

Two years ago, Yasa couldn’t write one word in Thai. Yesterday, the 12-year-old Myanma boy’s handwriting was recognized as the best in the realm.

Yasa won a national primary school competition yesterday held by the Office of the Basic Education Commission to mark National Thai Language Day.

The third grader from the Arunmetha School in Tak province was born to migrant Myanma parents who can neither read nor write in Thai.

Yasa’s teacher Saengarun Sornchaiya said when the boy enrolled into the school, he couldn’t write Thai at all. However, the boy’s skills improved significantly, especially in Thai language, to the beautiful penmanship he now produces, Thairath reported.
