MRT purple line to open next year

It was delayed, then it was less delayed, and now officials are confident the new MRT purple line will start running from Bang Sue station to Nonthaburi on time next year.

Three subway trains imported from Japan are scheduled to arrive in October and will start test runs soon thereafter before the line can open in mid-2016, according to Deputy Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith.

The purple line will connect with the current Bang Sue station. Ultimately the completed 23-kilometer route will run from Bang Bua Thong to Bang Yai in Nonthaburi province, passing Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon, Banglamphu, Wongwian Yai, Ratchaburana stations to and end at Phra Pradaeng in Samut Prakan for a total of 16 stations, Bangkok Post reported.
