As the MRT’s Blue Line extension creeps forward under the Chao Phraya River, officials have proposed extending it even further west from from Bang Khae to Phuttamonthon Sai 4.
A further extension of the line, which was initially designed to connect the current end points at Bang Sue and Hua Lamphong and stretch out to Bang Khae, will go to the cabinet for approval in November.
It would extend the route another eight kilometers and four stations along Petchakasem Road.
While the proposal was backed by local communities in the first public hearing, the final approval from local citizens will be made before the project is submitted to the cabinet, according to Theeraphan Tachasirinugune, acting head of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand.
The THB17.2 billion project is scheduled to start in early 2017 and complete in 2021.
