Mourners can stay cheaply on Khaosan Road as hotels, hostels offer discounts

Although it might not be the first place you might think of for mourners, 14 guesthouses on Khaosan Road are offering special low mourner rates for people traveling into the city to pay their respects to the late king.

In one way, it makes sense since the usually wild backpacker district is at low capacity as the city mourns and it’s also located close to the Grand Palace.

Hotel De Moc, Buddy Lodge, Dang Derm in the Parc, Boutique Inn, Dang Derm Hotel, D&D Inn, Pillow Hostel, Baan Chart, Pannee Lodge, Sleep With Inn, Khaosan Park Resort, Sakul House, Khaosan Palace and Rambuttri House are among those offering discounts, reported Bangkok Post.

A consultant to Khaosan Road Business Association, Sa-nga Ruangwattanakul, made the point that these tourism business operators are also in mourning and want to support their fellow countrymen and pay tribute to the late king.

Officials expect that many people from outside the city will come to Bangkok to pay their respects over the upcoming long weekend from Oct. 22-24.

In addition to the discounted hostels in the backpacker area, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) declared that there are no-cost accommodations for mourning paying their respects. They can stay for free at Din Daeng’s Bangkok Youth Center and Mansri Intersection’s Baan Imjai Shelter.

The association will seek the cooperation of more hotels and restaurants to join this campaign.

Sa-nga will seek more Khaosan hotels and hostels to join in the rate discount through the end of November, and perhaps even longer. At his own hotel, Buddy Lodge, 20 rooms will be available daily for THB1,100 instead of the usual THB1,800.

Some of the Khaosan Road hotels will also provide free shuttles to Sanam Luang.
