More trains, less traffic: Green light for MRT orange line

Minburi and Ramkhamhaeng residents are next in line for better transport options as the cabinet yesterday gave the green light to the construction of the orange line rail project which will link with the original MRT blue line.

The new rail line will connect the Thailand Cultural Center MRT station to Minburi district, and will consist of nine kilometers of elevated railroad and 12.2 kilometers of ground-level railroad, with a total of 17 stations.

The route will stop at residential areas and landmarks such as Ramkhamhaeng University and Hua Mark Stadium.

The project, which is managed by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA), received a THB95- billion fund for civil engineering work and land expropriation from the government, while the private sector will invest in trains and the operations system.

The rail line is due to be completed in August 2022, Thai PBS and Bangkok Post reported.
