More info surfaces about yesterday’s dramatic, Chao Phraya rescue

More information has surfaced about the dramatic rescue that took place yesterday in the Chao Phraya river.

The rescue involved a man who swam out to provide a life preserver to a drowning woman. A passenger on a nearby canal boat captured the moment on a digital camera and posted it to YouTube.

The Bangkok Post is now reporting that the rescuer’s name is Phitsanu Hongkamsang and that he works at Suvarnabhumi airport as an engineer for Thai Airways International.

Some speculated as well that the drowning woman had been attempting to commit suicide. Spectators saw her jump from a nearby pier, an action that at least on the surface appeared intentional.
