More fish for Thailand: ASEAN’s new hub

Soon Thai shrimp and fish will be in every pocket of Southeast Asia. In an initiative to boost the fish and seafood economy, Thailand is set to become ASEAN’s largest supplier.

The Fish Marketing Organization will transform the scene by increasing exports and selling seafood to supermarket chains, restaurants and hotels.

The Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry will team with the Department of Fisheries and the Bangkok based Fish Marketing Organization to better position the currently sluggish company from their 2 million baht annual revenue losses. The new partnership hopes to bring a boost of nearly 10 million baht a year to the organization.

The Fish Marketing Organization will act as a trade center for products, assist fishermen and regulate the services offered by marine piers.  The Fisheries Department will monitor the quality of seafood products to meet global market standards, as reported by National News Bureau of Thailand
