Forestry officials were shocked to find a sweet baby elephant caught at the bottom of a deep hole in Chantaburi yesterday. The little guy, who lives at Khao Soi Dao Wildlife Sanctuary in Khao Khitchakut district, was crying and covered in mud. Forestry officials wasted no time rescuing him.

The used a large sack and rope to pull the scared baby elephant out of the 5 meter deep hole. The rescue mission took about 50 minutes.

Thankfully, the little guy only weighed about 100 kilograms and was not too hard to free from his predicament.

Unfortunately, he was only a month old, tired, and very shaken by the ordeal.

Once he was on flat ground, they examined his quickly and gave him some water before letting him go to his mother, who was nervously hovering closeby, trying to check on her infant.

The anxious mother was in a panic before the rescue and her trumpeting alerted rescue workers. They managed to calm her after she was reunited with her baby, reported Bangkok Post.

National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department Chief Thanya Nethithammakul has now asked all national park and wildlife facilities to check their lands for unsafe areas caused by recent flooding and mudslides.
