An investigation has been launched after a clip of an online conversation in which a monk appears to be soliciting a young boy for paid sex went viral.

Phra Khru Sirinantavit, head monk at a temple in Nan province’s Wiengsa area, has appointed a fact-finding committee to find out more about the lewd conversation, in which the monk appears to send his nude photo to a young boy and asked the boy and his brother to have intercourse with him.

The young boy appears to answer that he is busy but the sex with his brother will cost the monk THB1,000 (about US$30). They agreed to a meeting on the temple grounds, according to the screenshots released online.

Phra Khru Sirinantavit hopes to learn if the monk posted the clip himself or if his account was hacked. Depending on what is found, he will likely be defrocked, reported Thai PBS.

The police will deal with the allegations of prostitution and child sex abuse.
