At a military draft on Sunday, a Thai monk forgot his mindful manners and jumped with absolute excitement when he found out that he would not have to serve in the military…and instead he’d get to study Dhamma some more.
At the conscription in Chonburi, there were two cards left to draw — one black and one red — fate would decide whether a monk or a layman would be called to serve his country in the military.
After the monk drew the black card, which meant he was free to go back to the temple, he went absolutely nuts with joy. He leapt into the air and danced around with his friend, part of his saffron robe even fell off. His friend took off his black shirt and danced around in his shorts as the two engaged in celebratory jumping and screaming better fit for a sporting event than a military draft.
And as for the guy left holding the red card? Better luck next time, yom.
