Mo Chit moto-taxi arrested for overcharging

Hop on for a 10-minute ride and don’t worry, it will only cost as much as a limo to the airport.

Bang Sue district police yesterday arrested Utain Puttharat, a motorcycle taxi operator who stationed at BTS Mo Chit, after two citizens filed a report that he demanded ridiculous fares for brief rides.

Police said the 34-year-old admitted taking two customers to the Mochit Bus Terminal last week, a ride of about 10 minutes. As customers did not negotiate the fare before hopping on his bike, Utain demanded THB680 each because of bad traffic.

At the end, the customers both agreed to pay him THB200 and then went to the police.

Utain told police he needed the money to raise his family and complained that there are many unregistered motorcycle taxis at BTS Mo Chit who overcharge customers, Kapook reported.

Among netizens, the reputation of Mo Chit motorcycle taxi operators is among the worst. Some have complained of operators blocking the exit of MRT Chatuchak to lie about traffic conditions and hunt for customers.
