A Thai woman was so shocked by the surging price of a Phuket taxi meter that she recorded a video of her heated exchange with the driver.
Facebook user Tarn Charinrat posted footage of the meter going up THB2 in what seems like 6-10 seconds. The user said she caught the taxi from Phuket International Airport and that the driver informed her the meter would go up THB2 per minute. However, it went up to THB110 in under than 5 minutes.
The video description reads: “Is this how meters in Phuket work? Somebody, please tell me. I just asked him if it’s supposed to go up that fast. My, he got so mad and said he’d take me back to the airport.”
It the end, Tarn and her farang friend went back to the airport to get another taxi.
“A woman at the airport’s taxi booth came to the driver. I heard them saying ‘Don’t give a damn about them. They’re annoying.’ Oh, so I’m wrong?”
Other Facebook users left comments on the video to say that Phuket transportation is always inexplicably expensive. Some advised Tarn to file a complaint at the police station because taxi drivers there are known to overcharge both Thai and foreign tourists.
This reminds us of the same sort of incident that happened to Jack Brown, a farang internet idol who decided to make a Thai-language rant about Phuket transportation and later lived to wai about it.
