Metal sticks found in fresh market shrimps

A facebook user shared what he discovered during a shopping spree at a fresh market in Bangkok — poisonous metal sticks hidden in fresh shrimps.

Kratip Khaw wrote on facebook that he saw a man carefully scanning shrimps with a metal detector at a stall in the market.

As the man’s metal detector beeped, he opened up the head of the shrimp in his hand, and took out a metal stick hidden in it.

As metal is poisonous, the incident shocked Kratip. He snapped photos to share on social media. The photos were later published by a popular facebook page with the sarcastic title “We love checkpoints”.

Putting metal sticks in the heads of shrimps is an old tactic used by farmers to increase the weight and profit of their products.

The user encouraged people to share his photos and warned netizens to be aware of heavy-metal shrimps. Although, it might have been more helpful if he had just stated where he found them.

Meanwhile, another user submitted a photo of her delicious shrimps served in a Nonthaburi restaurant that came with fried metal sticks.
