Strong winds this morning caused a metal traffic barrier to strike though a taxi on Krungthep Bridge. The officer responsible for the electric barriers disappeared after the horrific accident.
Driver Promma Kwankwa, 67, was found unconscious in his taxi after the accident occurred on the famous drawbridge at around 8:40am. He was sent to Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital, which is located nearby.
The severity of his head injury was not disclosed, Siamrath reported.
Before the accident, officers were preparing to pause traffic on the bridge so that they could draw it open for a large ship to pass under, but the person responsible for the electric barriers, Ampan Cheikul, from Department of Rural Roads, unlocked the metal bars 20 minutes before he was supposed to, causing the accident, according to Bang Kho Laem police.
Unexpectedly, one of the barriers struck through the taxi.
Police are tracking Ampan down for prosecution.
