Man vs Monkey: 80 primates forcefully evicted from community

Authorities stepped in to resolve an ongoing conflict between hundreds of residents in Bangkok’s Bang Kradi community and hundreds of cheeky macaque monkeys by sending 80 of the primates off to the wilderness of Ratchaburi province.

Eighty monkeys were caught after a month long attempt to lure them into a two-by-two-meter cage that was 20 meters long. The cage had fruit inside it as bait.

Residents decided enough was enough when the monkeys started ransacking their homes in search of food and on rare occasions, attacked children and the elderly.

The monkeys will be sent to the Phan Thai Norasing wildlife sanctuary in Samut Sakhon  province where they will undergone health examinations to check they don’t have any diseases before they are separated into two groups.

One group will go to the Khao Son wildlife breeding centre in Ratchaburi province, while the other group will head to the Kon Khun Kala island in Bang Khun Thian district, reported Thai PBS.
