A 38-year-old man stabbed his wife to death at a Big C department store in the outskirts of Bangkok yesterday after the victim refused to rekindle their relationship.
The attack happened in front of the escalator on the second floor of Big C Phra Pradaeng in Samutprakarn province. The 28-year-old victim, who worked as a cosmetics salesperson at the supermarket, died later at hospital after being stabbed three times in the chest, shoulder and waist.
Onchan Chaipuk, the husband, told police he had lived with his wife for six years and they had three children together, but about ten days ago she asked for a separation and he had to move out of their home.
Onchan visited his wife yesterday at noon to try and get her to take him back but when she refused, he dragged her out of her cosmetic booth and stabbed her.
“I came to the department store to ask her to get back together but we couldn’t settle things, so we started fighting. I was angry, so I locked her neck and stabbed her several times,” Onchan told police.
Onchan was initially charged with attempted murder and carrying a weapon.
The mother of the victim said Onchan was a drug addict and he was recently arrested for drug use. Her daughter also found out after moving in with him that he had served time in prison for killing his ex-wife.
She added her daughter had given Onchan many chances over the years to be a better person, but he reportedly beat her and their children and he saddled the family with his drug debt, Morning News and Khaosod reported.
