More of the usual today, as authorities accuse a man of stabbing himself in the stomach and pretending he was robbed for reasons that maybe made sense to him.
It all began Friday night when the guy stumbled out of a bathroom in Phaholyothin Place on Phaya Thai Road with a blade hanging out of his gut. When officers arrived, the 30-something told them he was attacked in the toilet by thieves who took his mobile phone.
After images of the apparent victim circulated online over the weekend, Bang Sue police moved to clear things up with the results of their investigation: The man was indeed stabbed, but by a knife he’d bought moments before using his mother’s credit card.
His story began falling apart after police reviewed CCTV footage, which seemed to prove the guy was completely alone in the bathroom before he emerged with the knife in his belly, calling for help.
Witnesses at the scene said the man was seen trying to buy a knife at the building, but when he couldn’t find what he was looking for, walked over to the nearby VIlla Market to pick up an overpriced belly-poker using his mom’s credit card, Matichon reported.
Police have concluded it was an act of self-mutilation motivated by a desire to who-fucking-knows?
