Man says he stomped 7-year-old boy after playtime gone wrong

A 43-year-old Bangkok man has turned himself in yesterday after he was caught on CCTV viciously kicking and stomping a 7-year-old boy who was playing with his 4-year-old son at his apartment building.

Amnat Talubthong, a resident of the state’s Baan Auea Athon housing in Kanna Yao, admitted to attacking his neighbor’s son on Tuesday, causing the boy to suffer head injuries.

In the 40-second footage from a surveillance camera, three boys were playing at the bottom of the stairs before Amnat ran down to kick one of them in the face before starting to stomp on his head.

The boy just lied down on the floor covering his head while another boy ran away.

Amnat then picked up the third boy, who was his son, before turning back to kick the same boy twice until he ran away.

Ammat said that his actions were done in the heat of the moment. He apologized and said he did it out of love for his son, who had previously told him he had been bullied.

Amnat has been charged with vicious assault. He’s facing up to three years in prison and a fine of THB6,000.

Meanwhile, social workers will be sent to talk to the two boys to investigate the case as well as helping both families get through the traumatic event.

Those who witness violence against children are encouraged to call One Stop Crisis Center’s hotline at 1300.
