On Tuesday, a Bangkok man lost his life after falling into a canal while trapped inside of a pickup truck’s cab.
Lod Suaykrathok, 50, was driving the truck along the canal on Monday night when he lost control of the vehicle and became stranded on the canal embankment, with the pickup hanging over the edge, listing towards the water.
He escaped the vehicle, and went back home to enlist the help of his neighbor, Thongsak Pingkaew, 30, in extricating the truck from its precarious situation.
Thongsak took the pickup truck’s wheel in order to keep it from sliding further into the canal while Lod went to fetch another car with which to haul the pickup truck clear. By the time Lod returned, the pickup had overturned and fallen into the canal, trapping Thongsak inside.
The Bangkok Post reports that Thongsak is presumed to have drowned.
