Man accused of molesting 61-year-old woman under expressway says it wasn’t rape

The man who was arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting a 61-year-old woman under Ngamwongwan Expressway claimed their intercourse was consensual.

Attaphon Huabdeebon, 37, was seized at his home in Samut Sakhon after the victim, Chantra Sriprayong, accused him of raping her on Sunday night in a shed she lives in under the expressway.

The victim came forward to the police on Monday and claimed that Attaphon, who was a construction material delivery person in the area, invited her to drink beer with him. He then requested sex, but she refused so he forced himself on her.

The victim said Attaphon punched her in the stomach several times and showed the police her severely swollen stomach.

Chantra said Attaphon also threatened to kill her and warned her not to tell anyone.

The suspect admitted to the police that he had had intercourse with the victim, but said that she consented. Police do not believe his statement as the victim’s injury was severe and caused her to stay in a hospital, Manager reported.

It was not clear if Atthaphon has been charged for the crime.

However, police suspect Attaphon might be the same serial rapist-murderer who assaulted 10 senior women and murdered two in the past five years in surrounding provinces of Bangkok as his appearance matched the sketch of the suspect.

Officials are working to identify if Attaphon was the suspect they have been looking for and the investigation is underway, Matichon reported.
