Malaysia: No terror link for at least one flight MH370 impostor

Pouria Nour Mohammad Mehrdad (left) and another young man are shown boarding flight MH370 in photos released by Malaysian police.

One of two passengers who boarded flight MH370 using a passport stolen in Thailand was a young Iranian man with no connection to terrorism, Malaysian officials said this afternoon.

Pouria Nour Mohammad Mehrdad, 19, was likely using the passport to relocate to Germany.

Investigation into the other passenger’s identitiy continues, but authorities have said he is also believed to be Iranian. In a photograph, two men suspected of being the passengers are show together.

Although accessing a plane using stolen passports is a security breach, it happens frequently in Southeast Asia, long a nexus for illegal migration.

According to the BBC, a young Iranian in Kuala Lumpur identified himself as a friend of one of the men and said the two had plans to migrate to Europe.
