Major Cineplex Pinklao fire caused by electrical issue: district chief

Bangplat District Chief said the fire at Major Cineplex Pinklao yesterday was caused by an electrical issue with a light sign. Two people were reportedly sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

District Chief Kannika Sangprasit said the light sign is believed to have caused a spark, causing the carpet to catch fire at theater Number 7 on the fourth floor. Luckily, the theater was empty at the time.

Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) and the Public Works Department will inspect the building tomorrow to determine the cost of damage and how the building will be repaired.

According to EIT secretary-general Siriwat Chaichana, the maintenance will take about four months. The building has been sealed off since the fire, according to Thai PBS.

After a thorough inspection, Siriwat said that the building’s structure was not damaged by the fire, but the roof of the parking lot and parts of the wall that collapsed in the fire were damaged.

Major Cineplex Group said the company will be able to claim the cost of damage from its insurance company, Thairath reported.
