The Pathumwan Municipal Court sentenced “Mafia Siam” to fourteen months and fifteen days in jail yesterday for his shameful attacks, including punching a woman on an MRT train.
Weerapan Inthawong, 38, locally known as “Mafia Siam” for his random assaults primarily on women and teens in the Siam Square area, was thrown into Klong Prem Central Prison yesterday after a friend of his latest victim used social media to find evidence to lead to his arrest.
After the thread on a Pantip forum exploded across the internet, two more victims came forward and lodged complaints with the police — a teenager who was threatened and smacked by Mafia Siam at Paragon Cineplex in August and a woman who had her mobile phone stolen last year.
Weerapan, a Laos national, was convicted for illegal entry to the kingdom, assault, threatening behaviour, and theft, according to Manager.
His sentence was commuted from two years and five months due to his confession.
The internet celebrated his arrest on Wednesday with an array of wonderful memes of him getting smacked by the angry victim at a press conference.
