Exploding fireworks injured 12 people celebrating Loy Krathong last night in the northeastern province of Nakhon Phanom.

The fireworks ignited prematurely at Phanom Naga Park along the Mekong River, striking two nearby and blasting cinders about 5 meters that injured 10 bystanders.

In footage of the incident, a firework explodes upward into someone’s face, after which several more powerful explosions are heard. It was unclear what went wrong.

Police and rescue volunteers rushed the victims to Nakhon Phanom Provincial Hospital for treatment, where some were treated for minor injuries.
