A puppy survived a 50-kilometer ride trapped inside a car’s engine compartment has a new home after she was rescued.
The lucky puppy went viral online after Boonnum Jamroenpongratsamee shared his story last night of how he gained an accidental new family member – after nearly killing her by unwittingly driving from Phetchaburi province to northern Bangkok with her clinging for dear life.
“The puppy was stuck under our car, and we dragged her for 50 kilometers!” he wrote. “Lucky that we made a stop at a coffee shop and someone spotted her. She was so lucky that she didn’t fall to the ground during the journey, she deserved to be named Chokdee [Lucky] with Tee mai tai [to not die] as her surname”
Boonnum told Coconuts Bangkok today that his family found Chokdee Tee Mai Tai on Sunday while returning home from a visit to a friend’s farm in Phetchaburi. They were headed back to Nonthaburi’s Bang Bua Thong district when they stopped at the Century Old Coffee House, where a parking attendant spotted the little pupper.
“The uncle there told me that I was dragging something under my car, so I bent down to see and got a shock. When did I hit a dog?” he said. “When I looked closely, I saw that she was still alive as I could see her tongue hanging out and her legs and her wiggling tail.”
He said his wife ducked under the car and freed the slightly injured doggo. Boonnum, 40, said the cream-colored furball made no sound despite being in pain, so they found her water to drink before taking her home with them.
He believes Chokdee had been running around his friend’s place and might have been owned by someone in the area. But his family, especially his daughters, were so charmed by Chokdee’s cuteness that they wanted to keep her. He said today that he’s been in touch with Chokdee’s human companion back in Petchaburi to talk about whether they can keep her.
After four days together, Boonnum said that Chokdee is cheerful and sleeps a lot. She’s very well-behaved and even poops in the proper place, he noted.
