“The Lisbon Traviata,” dramedy about two homosexual friends that first premiered on stage in New York City in 1989, will get a Bangkok adaptation starring Pangina Heals.
This is wonderful news! In case you didn’t know, Bangkok-based drag queen Pangina Heals is kind of a big deal, having starred in Coconuts TV’s hit series “Queer as Fuck” and performing in live shows around town to much fanfare.
The critically acclaimed play by Terrance McNally centers around two homosexual friends, one of whom is on the verge of losing his lover to much younger man. The adaptation of the broadway by Culture Collective Studio similarly depicts aspects of gay romance, but updates the setting to modern day Bangkok.
Pan Narkprasert, better known as the drag queen Pangina Heals, will play the lead character “Mendy” an eccentric cross-dressing opera fanatic. The Lisbon Traviata will be his acting debut.
This dramedy is, of course, intended for mature audiences and will contain adult language and partial nudity.
The play will be performed in English and open on Oct. 8 at the Chatrium Residence Riverside on Charoenkrung. Performances and seatings are limited. Tickets are THB800 and available on its website.
And just for fun, watch more ”Queer as Fuck” right here, as Pangina Heals explains the difference between a transgender and a transsexual (and more):
