Lee Westwood will seek an unprecedented third Thailand Golf Championship win when he defends his title against major-winners Bubba Watson and Martin Kaymer at the Thailand Golf Championship at Amata Spring Country Club, in Chon Buri from Dec 10-13, organisers said on Tuesday.
The Englishman will be confident of his chances after winning in 2011 and playing a brilliant final round for his second victory last year.
Sergio Garcia, Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee and Kiradech Aphibarnrat, and Darren Clarke, next year’s Ryder Cup and EurAsia Cup captain, are also confirmed for the tournament.
“I have many wonderful memories of playing at Amata Spring,” said Westwood, the former world number one who is currently ranked 46th.
“Both my wins are special and both were very different – shooting 60 in 2011 to win by seven, and then putting in a good round in tough conditions last year to win by a shot.”
Four places at next year’s British Open will also be up for grabs for players who do not already have exemptions.
