Update: The fire was brought under control and mostly extinguished by about 3pm, according to images shared on social media.

Firefighters this afternoon were trying to bring a major fire under control that broke out in the Bon Kai neighborhood along Rama IV Road.

Flames gutted the inside of a two-story wooden home in Soi Pluk Chit 1 and spread to numerous other residences, with fire officials notified at about 1:30pm to the growing blaze.

Firefighters were trying to keep the flames away from the adjacent Rama 4 Home Plus condo tower.

The spreading flames appeared to have already consumed several nearby homes. No injuries or deaths were immediately reported.

Footage and images of the fire have been shared on social media, taken by people in nearby offices and residences, with #BonKaiFire becoming a trending hashtag as of Tuesday afternoon.

Traffic is congested around  Soi Pluk Chit 1 due to the fire.
