Labor issues to air at Sanam Luang for May Day

Workers’ benefits, pay and future in the Asean Economic Community will be discussed at official Labor Day events to be held Friday at the Sanam Luang.

The Automobile Labor Congress of Thailand will host the event along with 13 other labor associations as well as state enterprise to discuss issues such as increasing the minimum wage, workers’ insurance fund and health care benefits.

Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha will preside over the opening ceremony.

On the same day, the Thai Labor Solidarity Committee is set to hold a separate activity at the Democracy Monument to mark May Day. It is expected to demand the National Wage Committee to approve the increase of minimum wage to THB360 per day by the end of October in order to take effect at the beginning of next year, state media reported.
