Despite repeated claims this week that the fabulously popular Thai member of Kpop girl group Blackpink would perform for a countdown party, it is obvious now that’s definitely not gonna happen.
YG Entertainment announced this afternoon that Lalisa Manoban, aka Lisa, will not attend a New Year’s party in downtown Phuket Town at the government’s invitation. The entertainment group also said it hoped no “confusion” took place.
“We are very grateful for such a proposal to appear, but unfortunately LISA will not be able to attend the event,” the statement read. “We hope that there should not be any confusion. Thank you.”
Two weeks ago, Thailand’s top tourism official said they reached out to the 24-year-old superstar – as well as 63-year-old opera legend Andrea Bocelli – to perform at countdown celebrations in Phuket and Bangkok, respectively. They were to be paid hundreds of millions of baht of the public’s money to do so.
In the past couple weeks, top officials already began bragging about an appearance by Buriram native Lisa, as if they thought wishful thinking would make it come true.
There hasn’t been any official confirmation from Bocelli either.
