A Korean tourist is going viral today, after CCTV footage of her slapping a security agent out of the blue at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport hit social media this weekend.
The incident occurred at about 11pm on Saturday, when the woman and her husband were going through baggage check in the departure area for international passengers.
Suvarnabhumi deputy director Kittipong Kittikachorn told Khaosod that the airport was extremely busy during the time of the incident.
The warning alarm went off as the woman walked through the full body scanner, so the airport agent signaled for her to approach to be scanned by a handheld detector.
CCTV footage from the incident shows the tourist becoming agitated almost as soon as she is through the scanner and confronted by the agent.
When the agent places a hand on her in order to direct her, she quickly throws her arms upward in an “X” over her head, seemingly in direct response to the contact.
While she briefly holds still for the handheld scan, thanks in part to her husband’s intercession, when the agent touches her right arm in an attempt to get her to lower it, she once again forms an “X” above her head before then slapping the agent across the face.
The tourist’s husband then quickly moves in to embrace her and pull her away from the agent as other airport staffers rush to the scene.

An investigation of the incident revealed that the agent was following standard protocol, Kittipong added.
The airport agent consequently filed a report at the Suvarnabhumi Airport Police Station, which ordered the tourists to pay a THB1,000 fine (about US$32), reported Channel 7 News.
However, they will reportedly not pursue further charges against the tourist.
Suvarnabhumi staff have yet to respond to our request for comment.
