A jet-ski operator on Koh Lan was charged with raping a Japanese woman on holiday yesterday after the tourist filed a police complaint against him.
Rattana Harit, 35, denied the charge, claiming the Japanese woman, who was not identified, rented his jet ski and they got to know each other.
A statement from the alleged victim was not published.
Rattana told the police that he went out drinking with the victim on Saturday night and had consensual intercourse with her on the roadside. He didn’t think something went wrong until he was arrested the morning after.
Police said Rattana has to find witnesses to confirm his statement. He will plead innocent in court, Morning News reported.
