King and Queen of Bhutan to attend royal funeral in Thailand

Their Majesties the King and Queen of Bhutan are scheduled to travel to Thailand to participate in the royal funeral of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

According to an official announcement, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, of Bhutan, will be present at the royal cremation ceremony of the late King Rama IX on Oct. 26, 2017, reported Thai News Bureau.

The King of Bhutan has been engaged in a close friendship with the Thai royal family. He praised His the late Thai king as a role model of national development and was one of the royal guests during the celebrations of the diamond jubilee of the late king in 2006.

Following the passing of the Thai king, the Bhutanese king has been grieving with the Thai people. He has led members of the royal family and the people of Bhutan in holding prayers and a candle vigil in tribute to the late Thai king.
