The heart-wrenching footage of a baby monkey at Khao Yai National Park shaking his mother in an attempt to wake her up after she was killed by a car has drawn tears from thousands of viewers.
Facebook user Panuwat Sasirat, who posted the video, wrote that the animal, who did not know his mother was dead, shook and tugged on his mother, but her lifeless body did not respond.
The monkey then screamed and suckled on the mother’s nipples as Panuwat got closer to him.
“This has saddened me and other foreign tourists. Please always drive slowly because the forest is their home,” Panuwat wrote.
The video was posted yesterday and has received over 100,000 views.
Panuwat contacted the park’s officials and later updated that they had buried the dead mother and reunited the baby with its peers.
