Just block them: School reaches solution to prevent motorbikes running on sidewalks

To deal with motorbikes running on the sidewalk their students use, Bangkok International Preparatory and Secondary School in Thong Lor came up with a solution to protect the children — just blocking the walkway so no motorbikes can pass.

As it seems no laws can stop motorcyclists to run on the pedestrian walkways, the school put up a fence outside their school last week, with permission from the Wattana District, after many solutions in dealing with reckless drivers have failed, according to Facebook user Torplus Nick Yomnak, who is said to work at the school.

“We have worked and tried out many solutions. We’re welcome any feedback. Although this may not be the best one, but we believe it will ensure safety for our students, teachers, guardians and other pedestrians,” Torplus wrote on Facebook.

Netizens say that if motorists had the good conscience to obey traffic rules in the first place, there would be no need to build a fence to block them.

Others opined that the fence is a great idea that could help solve one of Bangkok’s most endemic problems: un-walkable sidewalks.

In case you’re curious, here’s a video demonstrating how to walk around the fence:
